Marine Superintendent

Role

The role of the Assistant Operations Superintendent will be to supervise longshore labor in the remote location of Dutch Harbor, Alaska.  This position will shift between night shift, swing shift, and day shift as needed.  This is an office position with occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions.

 

Responsibilities

The Assistant Superintendent of Operations duties include but are not limited to the following:    

  • Terminal planning
  • Financial reporting
  • Effectively lead and administer functional marine teams, safety programs and accident reporting
  • Discharge and loading sequences to meet all standards.
  • Direct and supervise EMS steady and hall long shore labor. 
  • Participate in all aspects of hiring & discharge, contract administration and labor relations, as well as disciplinary actions/complaint handling. 
  • Interaction with transportation, equipment, container yard, and logistics departments.
  • Track and analyze key operating standards and measures for cost/productivity management.
  • Participate in cross-functional training within the department including but not limited to dispatching, outside superintendent, inside superintendent, shift manager, and specific administration duties.
  • Mentor, train & coach all levels of superintendents on Safety Procedures, Terminal Operating Systems, Labor Relations, Payroll approval process, Incident Reporting, and all aspects of a terminal operation

Minimum Qualifications

    High School Diploma or GED; some Accounting Courses preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    5 years experience in a transportation related field.
    Must possess valid driver's license.
    Must be able and willing to work night, day, weekends, holidays as needed.
    MS Word, Excel and Access proficiency.
    VHF radio skills.
    10 Key.
    Experience working with all standard office equipment.
