Maintenance & Repair Manager

This position will manage the day-to-day maintenance operations of APL’s Dutch Harbor, Alaska – Terminal 1.

The scope includes, but is not limited to:

 

  • Supervising union maintenance personnel
  • Approve and review all Requisition Forms
    • Ensure requests are submitted within APL guidelines
  • Maintain labor work schedule
  • Overseeing and scheduling preventive maintenance of all APL equipment
    • Service vehicles
    • Cargo handling equipment
    • Refrigerated containers
    • Gensets
  • Prioritizing maintenance needs
  • Oversee inventory of parts, shop tools and equipment
  • Ensure safety in the work environment
    • Weekly safety meetings
  • Coordinate/communicate equipment and maintenance needs for coverage of vessel schedules with terminal operations staff

 

This position, as part of the APL Operations Team shares accountability for such areas as cost, production, safety, labor relations and asset utilization.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 10-years of experience within the M&R field.
  • Minimum of 5-years of experience in a supervisory position.  Transportation industry experience a plus.
  • Flexibility in working schedule.  Ability to work days, nights and weekends.

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 

  • Experience directly managing a union work force.
  • Excellent communication skills---both verbal and written.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, requires the ability to explain complex issues, present alternatives and reach optimal solutions.
  • Strong working knowledge of EXCEL, Word and Outlook.  Other IT familiarity a plus.
