Job Description

This position is responsible for the strategic planning and monitoring of containers in North America – LAX-LGB Region with a team consisting of management and bargaining unit employees The position supports the strategic development of the inbound network design and is accountable for the tactical planning and management of inbound container delivery.  The position is responsible for identifying the volume of export containers that will be available for loading at vessel cut-off.  Compliance with documentation and regulatory requirements are monitored to improve forecast accuracy and maximize cargo movement over the LAX-LGB Region.   The position pushes cargo to/from waterport locations targeting containers that may be dwelling excessively.  The department plays a key role in optimizing network assets while meeting product design and customer commitments.





This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

•           Develop and implement tactical plans to optimize asset utilization and meet product design; Monitor network reliability and making tactical adjustments to cargo flow

•           Collaborate with key stakeholders in the strategic development of network design

•           Manage process steps involved in the set up and execution of container movement

•           Develop staff and schedule resources to achieve department deliverables

•           Management of ILWU office clerical workers and administer contract according to collective bargaining agreement preferred.

•           Identify, standardize/automate and implement process improvement opportunities

•           Build strong communication links and provide guidance to various teams to improve interaction for execution of plans

•           Develop, measure and report key performance indicators. Automate wherever possible.

•           Regulatory compliance experience for import/export (IT, CAD, CBP, ITN, CAED).

•           Liaise between APL, customer, and terminal operations to achieve internal and external customer satisfaction.

•           Assist NAM Network to understand operational issues, investigate opportunities and implement new business strategies.

•           Identify, track, maintain and implement improvement opportunities for departmental process standards.

•           Manage APL cost and identify cost saving opportunities.

•           Supervise the day to day equipment, transportation, and import related issues and updates in internal/external systems with the LAX-LGB Management/clerks.

•           Invoice processing and monthly cost reporting.
