Time Commitment: It is expected that his successful candidate will commit 12-18 months to this position before pursuing other opportunities.
On a contract basis for transpacific cargo moving under a CMA CGM bill of lading, this position is responsible for ensuring all customers are aware of their import shipments (except for such cargo arriving at the Ports of Los Angeles or Long Beach, California) and verifying all requirements have been met prior to releasing the cargo, including by monitoring manifests and releases received or sent by EDI, and free time validation and terminal reports. Additionally, the IBVC clerk provides assistance to ensure compliance with applicable U.S. Regulatory Agency/Government shipping regulations.
1. Coordinate timely sending of terminal manifests and vessel arrival reports by EDI transmission.
2. Identify extended free time offered in service contracts and coordinate benefits with respective terminals to avoid delays in the release of cargo.
3. Review and monitor bill logs to ensure all requirements are satisfied prior to the release of cargo (OBL received, freight is paid, customs cleared).
4. Review terminal reports transmitted by EDI to ensure timely and accurate release of cargo.
5. Coordinate cargo release procedures at water ports to reduce demurrage costs.
6. Provide prescribed notifications to customers of U.S. Regulatory Agency/Government holds and compliance requirements, and actions required to progress the movement of inbound cargo as authorized and directed by management.
7. Provide prescribed notifications to customers of Customs Border Protection (CBP), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and other government agency requirements to facilitate customer compliance as authorized and directed by management.
8. As directed by management, issue Immediate Transportation bonds, Immediate Exportation bonds and Transportation and Exportation bonds (IT’s, IE’s & T&E’s) to allow intermodal cargo to move to inland destination without delay; allowing customer to clear cargo with CBP at the inland destination.
9. As directed by management, place cargo on hold at ports where the company collects demurrage to ensure payment is received prior to cargo being delivered; maintain accurate and up-to-date demurrage log.
10. Other duties as directed.
1. High school degree or equivalent required.
2. 2+ years of previous customer service experience required.
3. Typing 35 wpm (proficiency to be tested).

12. For Internal candidates: Minimum three-year work relevant transportation experience (including 6 months experience involving direct customer interaction) combining any three of the following areas:
International Tariffs
Ocean Documentation
Freight Cashier
Sales/Customer Service
Cargo Delivery
Must demonstrate an acceptable level of knowledge in each area. Equivalent training in the Customer Service Center may be substituted for the above.
13. Excellent attendance record during the past 12 months.
1. Bachelor’s degree or some college coursework preferred.
2. Experience in the transportation industry is preferred.
