Summary Description -

This position is responsible for managing a veteran group of employees who conduct the daily, time-sensitive tasks necessary to keep APL compliant with US Federal Regulations. This person, using advanced knowledge of Federal regulations, contacts within the Trade and APL’s procedures also provides technical support though telephone and email correspondence with internal and external customers for US Customs and North America notifications issues as needed. 10 years of industry compliance experience is required.  As well, a broad transportation background in other maritime areas is suggested as well. Flexibility and a willingness to learn as the position evolves with the industry is a must. The employee should be able to make decisions based on wide-ranging industry circumstances on their own as well as function as part of a well-established team.

Ensure federal ocean carrier regulatory guidelines for US and Canada are understood and adhered to by all APL departments.

 

Number of repeat regulatory violations issued to APL in a calendar year.

Ability to direct and guide team members as needed in providing timely, consistent and accurate action/responses to internal and external customer requirements regarding LARA, regulatory issues and arrival notices.

 

Customer satisfaction. Regulatory violation avoidance.

Advanced  penalty avoidance skills and well as penalty mitigation abilities

Cost saving to APL and customers as well as maintaining our extremely high standard of compliance with CBP and other government agencies.

Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationship with other carriers as well as misc. government agency representatives

Regular participation at CESAC and CANFED meetings. Participation on CBP voluntary and appointed committees and interaction as member with World Shipping Council initiatives/inquiries.

 

Education/Experience, skill sets, desired competencies;

Show which are ‘required’ and which are desired or nice to have.

 

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree and/or 10 + years’ experience in compliance and documentation areas.

Experiences

10+years in board areas ocean carrier (CS, OPS, Tariff knowledge)

Skill Sets

APL systems, Excel, exposure to CBP ACE and CBSA ACI

Language Skills

English (written and verbal)
