About the Role

As an Ocean LCL Gateway Specialist, you will play a crucial part in the end-to-end management of ocean freight shipments, particularly focusing on the gateway operations for LCL cargo. This position requires a flexible approach to working hours, generally between 8:00am to 4:00pm or 9:00am to 5:00pm, to accommodate operational needs. You will be working on-site at our Des Plaines facility, collaborating closely with internal teams and partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage LCL ocean freight gateway processes, ensuring timely and accurate handling of shipments.
  • Facilitate communication between various stakeholders including shipping lines, warehouses, customs brokerage, and internal teams.
  • Utilise Cargowise software for shipment tracking, documentation, and workflow management to maintain precise records and streamline operations.
  • Perform data analysis and reporting using intermediate Excel skills to support operational decisions and improve process efficiencies.
  • Coordinate and resolve exceptions related to shipments, maintaining a high level of customer service and satisfaction.
  • Work proactively within a team setting to align operational goals and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and international shipping standards.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience with ocean freight gateway operations, particularly LCL shipments, is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency or working knowledge of Cargowise, or similar logistics/forwarding management software.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including data manipulation, pivot tables, and basic formula creation.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills with an ability to collaborate effectively across departments and external partners.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organisational and time management abilities to handle multiple priorities effectively.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work schedules and operational demands.
  • An understanding of ocean freight documentation and customs clearance processes will be advantageous.

This role is based at our Des Plaines gateway facility and involves on-site operational activities.
