Fleet efficiency & retrofit engineer (M/F)

The Role :


Being expert in naval architecture with a specialisation in hull optimization and energy saving technologies, the candidate will be in charge of identifying and realizing the chartered fleet’s potential on: 
-    Hull and propeller optimisation
-    Exploitation of Energy Saving Devices 
-    Reduction of Carbon Footprint



Responsibilities :


The naval architect dealing with these subjects will be part of the Chartering department.

You will be:

  • Assessing the chartered fleet to identify the performance optimization potential per vessel design / series
  • Studying previous and ongoing propeller, bulbous bow, and other relevant retrofit projects of the owned and chartered fleet to find and exploit synergies in retrofit projects between the two fleets
  • Undertaking the appropriate studies to quantify the performance improvements provided by the different applicable modifications to the vessel’s hull, propeller, and machinery
  • Obtaining quotations from shipyards and service providers for the retained improvement initiative
  • Preparing presentations of your findings with the objective to obtain approvals for vessel modifications from Management and Vessel owners (investment decisions and retrofit approvals)
  • Assisting in the timely organisation of modification works, taking into account the constraints defined by the  vessel’s class renewal dates and their current / future deployment 
  • Supporting owners, where required, in the redaction of the retrofit specification, drawing approvals, documents, and certifications follow up
  • Creating a retrofit catalogue / data base on vessel improvement initiatives, specifying, per vessel series / design, which retrofit items provide what kind of energy saving / improvement and at what cost



Profile and Qualifications : 


  • Graduated MSC degree in marine engineering (ENSTA, Centrale, Mines, ENSAM…), with naval architecture experience and, preferably particular project management experience in the implementation of energy saving initiatives in another company.
  • Knowledge required : Naval architecture or marine engineering (Applied mathematics; Hydrodynamics; Ship’s propulsion), project management skills, class rules for steel vessel for container ships (BV, DNV-GL, ABS)
  • Working language is English.
