Export Trade Manager

Reporting to the National Export Manager, the role is to develop and implement the commercial strategies in line with Principle directions, to manage relationship with key customers, internal and external, prioritise Lines’ instructions in collaboration with the National Export Manager and present directions to Sales Management.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Northbound (exports) service scope of ANL & CMA CGM 
  • Produce Agency forecasts for cargo flow management by port of loading for Dry and Reefer containers
  • Build, develop, implement and analyse vessel profiles 
  • Define, develop and pilot commercial strategies in line with Principal directions to improve cargo mix and market share
  • Report to Lines issues related to allocations (COA/CSA), pricing, routing and other issues
  • Prioritize Lines’ instructions in collaboration with the National Export Manager. Present directions to Sales Management
  • Manage free-hand cargo allocations based on various priorities agreed with sales managers  
  • In co-ordinate with Liner teams create and maintain a traffic light reference system for booking acceptance    
  • Weekly update to Sales Management on utilisations, shortfalls, rationale & reasons and trade performance. 
  • Engagement with State Sales Management on shortfalls Vs forecast 


Ideally the successful candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with commercial background in Sales and/or Customer Care with preferably experience in the shipping industry
  • A high level of organisation, presentation, and communication skills. The person can expect to have regular contact with the highest levels of management.
  • Well-developed analytical skills. The ability to arrive at well thought out decision when there is no hard and fast answer is essential.
  • An understanding of both ‘macro’ and ‘micro’ business fundamentals.
  • Highly developed computer and spreadsheet skills including a high level of numeracy.
  • Ability to function as part of the team working in multi skilled environment
