Systems Administrator

Position Summary:

The System Administrator position will interact with all levels of users in the company, including senior executives.  He or she will perform troubleshooting duties on hardware, software, and data network problems for individual users; installs, repairs, and provides preventive maintenance of personal computer and related systems; completes required logs and reports of maintenance activities; provides training and technical assistance to users on hardware and software applications; performs hardware and software moves, adds, and changes; learns LAN design and configuration concepts and participates in the analysis and resolution of network problems and malfunctions; participates in the design, testing, implementation, and maintenance of PC/LAN systems. He or she must have the ability to work well under pressure in a rapidly changing environment with some supervision and guidance from the supervisor. He or she is responsible for adhering to CMA-CGM’s IT standards and would participate in incorporating industry best practices into operations.

In addition, the Systems Administrator provides the day-to-day support, operation and maintenance of all server and server-based systems throughout the company.  This position performs on-going monitoring, maintenance and backup operations for all server systems to ensure maximum up time and reliable performance.  The Systems Administrator assists with the design and implementation of new systems and performs upgrades to existing systems.  This position maintains user account information and assigns security permissions to designated systems.  The emphasis of the Systems Administrator is to maintain and manage existing systems and assist the Systems Engineers with the design and implementation of new systems.

 

This position will be responsible to:

 

  • Installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of local workstations, printers and smartphones.  This includes new hardware and software installations, network software configurations, upgrades to workstation hardware/software and general user assistance with various PC software.
  • Maintain current record of computer assets assigned to location, including tracking additions, relocations, and deletions.
  • Perform on-call responsibilities in support of the site IT operations.
  • Monitors all Servers for availability and performance and conducts backup and restore operations on a daily basis.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves Server and Application System issues noting corrective actions in the company help desk tracking system.
  • Maintains GPOs, security groups, and email distributions to ensure all user and computer accounts have the proper configuration and security access.  Processes new user accounts and makes account changes as required.
  • Installs and configures server hardware and software. Performs server upgrades, data migrations, system maintenance and repair.  Distributes service packs, hot fixes, and anti-virus software to all servers and microcomputers.
  • Miscellaneous related duties or projects as assigned.

 

 

 

Skill Sets / Education & Experience Requirements:

 

  • Vocational or Technical Diploma required
  • 2-4 years’ experience in systems administration required.
  • Proficient with ticket escalation procedures, including providing adequate information within tickets for others to efficiently provide higher-level problem solving.
  • Ability to image and deploy replacement servers, desktops and laptops
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Server operating systems including DHCP, DNS, and AD replication
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Exchange Server software
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
  • Working knowledge of common Server hardware platforms
  • Working knowledge of common backup software and practices
  • Working knowledge of Ethernet and TCPIP network connectivity
  • Understanding of, and the ability to maintain complex Cisco LAN is a plus
  • General knowledge of the Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent customer service skills in person or over the phone
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good time management skills
  • Good server hardware and software troubleshooting skills
  • Good network connectivity troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to stay calm and focused in a stressful environment

  • Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network +, MCP, MCSA, MCSE, or other Microsoft Certifications
