Sr. Manager, West Coast Motor Carrier Sourcing

Position Summary

 

­­­­­­­­­­The Senior Manager, West Coast Motor Carrier Sourcing will enhance the value obtained from the Logistics supply base by assisting the Sr. Director of Intermodal Sourcing with executing the strategic direction of the Drayage activities in the USA. This individual will work closely with stakeholders to align the business objectives to deliver value and cost savings. They are also expected to collaborate with their fellow staff members to optimize overall procurement performance across the business network. 

 

The Senior Manager, West Coast Motor Carrier Sourcing will investigate new developments relative to the Logistics of Intermodal freight and make recommendations designed to reduce costs and improve quality, efficiency and service. They will also be responsible for negotiating commercial terms and ownership of the procurement agreements with suppliers. This position will work closely with the motor carrier network in southern California to build rapport and attend face-to-face meetings with the trucking community as necessary.

 

This position will be responsible to:

 

  • Execute and manage successful motor carrier sourcing strategies.  Strategy execution involves carrier/vendor selection, sourcing tool selection, implementation, and successful utilization of a cost effective and efficient carrier network.  Creative solution development.
  • Indirectly influence the motor carrier sourcing team, supervisor and specialist to attain goals and targets as identified by the Sr. Director Intermodal Sourcing Establish Maintenance and repair estimates and review for approval to vendors.
  • Collaborate with Internal stakeholders; Intermodal, Equipment, Trade, and Sales/Commercial teams to understand clients’ requirements to meet and exceed clients’ expectations as they relate to price and service. Provide cost effective solutions when utilizing all transportation service providers utilized by CCA/APL..
  • Continue to develop KPI’s that measure strategic objectives of CCA/APL focusing on cost effective savings initiatives. Refine reporting process to capture key metrics that drive business decisions for Executive management review.
  • Initiate and direct management of RFQ’s and related project plans as required.  Initiate and direct related project plans as they relate to the strategic plan, tactical needs, and commercial requirements.  Develop new methods for cost reduction initiatives by creative planning/operating practice evaluations..
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with external suppliers focusing on key strategic initiatives.   
  • Provide support to the Sr. Director, Intermodal Sourcing in all needed tasks including but not limited to data analysis, presentation, reporting, strategic planning, contract negotiation, process improvement, sourcing technology, system updates and business development.

  • Miscellaneous related duties or projects as assigned.

 

 

Skill Sets / Education & Experience Requirements:

 

  • High School Diploma required and 4-6 years Industry experience.
  • Advanced computer skills, Outlook, Excel, Word, Access and Power Point
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to analyze cost data to reach best cost solution.
  • Expertise of the Intermodal Transportation and Operational Network
  • Extensive transportation related connections
  • Result driven negotiation skills
