Assistant Manager, IA Cargo Flow


CHENG LIE Navigation Company (CNC Line) is a leader in intra-Asia trade. Subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group, CNC Line offers personalized services and has specific expertise in the transport of containers with temperature control (refrigerated containers or Reefers).



Mission :

  • To manage a team of cargo flow officers to optimize the loadings onboard assigned services.
  • To manage independently space optimization for a set of services and supervise sub-ordinate’s services
  • to ensure Line Management Objectives by following stipulating S.O.P.s and KPIs in place.
  • The incumbent should take the lead when it comes to interacting with Management and with other departments on a regular basis to overcome shipping challenges.


Job Responsibilities :

  • Dispatch allocations and monitor bookings / forecasts from the agency network
  • Collect booking information, forecasts, loading data from agency network on a daily basis
  • Ensure cargo flow reports are accurate with most updated information on every working day
  • Provide feedback to trade team on overbookings / under performance so that pricing strategies can be adjusted.
  • Follow up with Hub ports to monitor and ensure flow of cargoes is in line with granted allocations
  • Ensure no double rollovers and cost avoidance
  • Engage with Trade team during an overflow situation to identify cargo / customer prioritization.
  • Co-ordinate with ship planners to optimize stowage plan and overcome stability issues by exchanging information in advance.
  • Engage with Operations team / Trade team for schedule recovery of assigned services and phase in/out scenarios.
  • Liaise with Network Alliance team for compensations for port omissions for own/partner vessels/cargoes as applicable.
  • Liaise with Network Alliance team for any operational issues involving partners vessels affecting our bookings / loadings.
  • Co-ordinate with Logistics Team to reposition empties on corridors where space is available and maximize space on board.
  • Supervise sub-ordinates services to ensure reports are churned out timely and accurately.
  • Providing training support to new comers to get them onboard adequately to job requirements.
  • Half yearly appraisals of sub-ordinates to update them on progress and offer future guidance.
  • Offer pro-active suggestions to Line Management for holiday impacted ships, peak season surges, to divert resources as warranted.
  • Regular communication with cargo flow teams of other trades within the group to identify their cross trade requirements and offer/manage space.
  • Attend weekly meetings involving multiple departments to address and solve related issues.



  • Degree or above, Discipline related to Maritime Studies or logistics & supply chain is preferred
  • 5 years and above of experience in Cargo Flow or Capacity management is required
  • Knowledge of world geography
  • Advance working knowledge in Excel required, with experience in Formatting, Pivot Tables, Formulas, Filters and Sorting
  • Ability to apply good logic and reasoning when problem solving and making decisions
  • Good writing and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • The will to take ownership in your services and monitor every aspect of them
