Transport Manager

Objective:
Coordinate and supervise inland transport operations to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and facilitate carrier invoicing.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- You are responsible for all inland transport within your region.
- You manage transport flows as efficiently as possible and strive for optimal service levels.
- You monitor and ensure that the team uses the correct transport modes, aligned with the strategy.
- You help set up new flows together with internal stakeholders and propose the most suitable supplier.
- You follow up operationally with your suppliers and organize regular check-ins to adjust and stay informed about their developments.
- You act as the escalation point in case of issues.
- You lead a team of transport planners, each with their own specialty, and ensure continuity across the department.
- You set goals for your team in line with the company strategy and monitor their progress.
- You regularly organize team meetings and ensure alignment within the team.
- You value polyvalence and ensure sufficient training and growth opportunities where needed.
- You manage transport flows yourself and identify pain points, setting up controls based on reporting.
- You report based on KPIs, monitor them closely, and make adjustments where necessary.
- You are responsible for the self-billing team that tracks additional costs, prepares self-billings for carriers, and follows up on disputes.
Knowledge and Skills:
- You are familiar with the transport network and the various options offered by suppliers.
- You understand transport legislation and ensure full compliance.
- You have excellent knowledge of the inland depots within the ILS Benelux scope.
- Strong communication skills in Dutch and English, both spoken and written, with knowledge of industry terminology. French and German are a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of maritime transport (terminology, transport modes, geography, container types, product knowledge).
- In-depth understanding of maritime, commercial, and customs documentation.
- Operational knowledge of export shipment processes.
- Understanding of the services provided by the company.
