Senior logistics & Intermodal Supervisor CAMEROUN

Douala – Cameroon (Occasional missions to Kribi and wherever required)

 

1.      ROLE OBJECTIVE

 

Ensure the optimal management of logistics and intermodal operations, as well as container yards in the Cameroon area and its extensions, to guarantee the availability of the right type of container, in the right place, at the right time, and at the best cost. 

The role holder ensures cost control, smooth operations, and adherence to Group standards in terms of performance, safety, and compliance.

 

2.      MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

 

•        Oversee the Intermodal & Equipment Logistics Services (ILS) activity of the cluster.

•        Negotiate and manage contracts with logistics providers, depots, and transporters.

•        Define and implement operational procedures related to equipment control and repositioning.

•        Optimise the management of container stocks and the repositioning of empties according to geographical and seasonal needs.

•        Coordinate the technical and administrative monitoring of the container fleet.

•        Monitor logistics costs and propose corrective action plans.

•        Pursue continuous cost reduction in the logistics chain (repairs, transport, handling, storage).

•        Ensure compliance and performance of intermodal operations (time/cost/quality).

 

3.      KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1.      Operational Management

•        Analyse, monitor, and manage container stocks (empty, full, idle).

•        Prepare and communicate equipment availability forecasts.

•        Organise the repositioning of empty containers and supervise flows.

•        Ensure the release and return of equipment.

•        Manage sub-leasing, sales, on-hire/off-hire contracts.

•        Supervise the implementation of Pick-up/Drop-off policies and associated billing where applicable.

 

2.      Relations with Depots and Providers

•        Supervise sourcing, negotiation, benchmarking, and audits of partner depots.

•        Conduct regular audit visits (processes, safety, compliance).

•        Align depots with Group requirements and standards.

 

3.      Cost Monitoring and Control

•        Provide evidence and secondary validations on storage and transport costs.

•        Oversee weekly performance and intermodal flows.

•        Monitor Off-Hire repairs, negotiate rates, and ensure compliance.

 

4.      Team Management

•        Supervise, motivate, and develop logistics and ILS teams.

•        Encourage communication and skill development among team members.

 

5.      Intermodal Management

•        Supervise and manage the intermodal team within the agency and GBS.

•        Be responsible for intermodal performance and head office intermodal KPIs.

•        Identify cost reduction areas for intermodal and report the benefits.

•        Develop intermodal coverage and profitability.

 

4.      REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALITIES

 

6.      Technical Skills:

•        Proficiency in Group tools and systems: LARA, C-REPORT, MIRA, DIVA, GAIA, MACS3, LARA CARGO.

•        Excellent knowledge of the maritime and intermodal logistics chain.

•        Ability to analyse flows, optimise stocks, and propose action plans.

•        Proficiency in office tools: Excel, PowerPoint, Word.

5.      PROFILE

 

•        Holder of a Master’s degree in Transport, Logistics, or International Trade.

•        Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the maritime, logistics, or intermodal sector.

•        Proven experience in managing logistics providers and multi-site coordination.

•        Fluency in French and English, both spoken and written.

 

6.      WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

Position based in Douala, with regular travel to Kribi and wherever required.

- The Managing Director

- The Cluster Operations & Logistics Manager

- Depot, commercial, and intermodal teams

- Partner suppliers and transporters

 

7.      EVALUATION AND PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

 

•        Container availability rate.

•        Adherence to logistics and intermodal budget.

•        Stock rotation rate and average repositioning time.

•        Reduction in operational costs.

•        Internal and external client satisfaction with ILS performance.

•        Compliance with Group standards (quality, safety, compliance).
