VIE Business Developer - Nigeria

YOUR ROLE

 

This VIE position will be based in Lagos, Nigeria within our local CMA CGM Nigeria structure. The position/role is designed to support and develop the company’s commercial activities within the maritime and shipping markets. Under the supervision of the Chief Commercial Officer, the VIE will:

 

  • Contribute to the execution of sales strategies aimed at meeting or exceeding revenue targets.

 

  • Support the monitoring of market trends, competition, and regulatory changes.

 

  • Help manage and update the sales pipeline in NOVA, ensuring data accuracy and insightful reporting.

 

  • Assist with lead generation, client acquisition and retention, and the preparation of commercial presentations.

 

  • Create and maintain performance dashboards and regular reports to provide clear visibility on commercial activity and results.
     

The VIE will have defined responsibilities and quantitative targets (e.g. qualified leads, reporting, analysis), while benefiting from guidance, coaching and a learning framework to grow towards greater autonomy in a commercial role.

 

 

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ?

 

  • Develop and execute sales strategies to consistently meet or exceed revenue targets, including preparing and presenting commercial data to support sales objectives.
  • Monitor industry trends, competition activity and regulatory changes within maritime and shipping markets, as well as identify emerging trade lanes, cargo segments, or geographic regions with growth potential.
  • Maintain an accurate pipeline in NOVA, regularly reporting on KPIs such as new accounts acquired, and client retention rates.
  • Deliver weekly reports detailing market trends and competition activity; analyze customer needs and behaviors to pinpoint growth opportunities and assist in preparing and executing business development strategies.
  • Achieve a specified number of qualified leads for the agency each week, with sales effectiveness support, and track and report on lead conversion rates to ensure targets are met.
  • Contribute to the preparation of presentations for priority customers, especially through NOVA; analyze customer satisfaction and take action on lost or declining customers; develop strategies for new client acquisition and support digital marketing campaigns.
  • Create comprehensive weekly and monthly performance dashboards, providing actionable insights into the effectiveness of different initiatives, and report quarterly on lead generation, sales targets, and business acquisition. 

 

(These responsibilities will be carried out in close collaboration with the CCO and the commercial team, with a strong emphasis on learning, support and skills development consistent with the VIE framework.)

 

 

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR ?

 

  • Eligible for the VIE program in accordance with Business France criteria.

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Business, Marketing, International Trade, Maritime Studies, Logistics, Economics or a related field.

  • First relevant experience (internship, apprenticeship, junior role) in sales, business development, commercial analysis, consulting, logistics, or maritime/shipping will be a plus.

  • Good proficiency in English (spoken and written).

  • Proficiency in or strong appetite to work with CRM tools for pipeline management, KPI tracking and reporting.
  • Solid analytical skills for interpreting commercial data, market trends, competition activity and customer behavior.
  • Experience or strong ability to prepare and support delivery of professional presentations, reports, and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Good command of MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) or equivalent tools for analysis and presentations.
  • Team player, able to collaborate effectively with sales, marketing, operations and management
