Senior Machinery and Shipbuilding Specialist

THE ROLE

 

Within CMA Ships, the Newbuilding department shapes the future of our fleet by overseeing the design and construction of next-generation vessels—driving innovation, sustainability, and long-term performance. You integrate the Design & Improvement Office, a pole of expertise to draw the containership of tomorrow. 

 

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ? 

 

You shall:

  • Comply with IMS and all relevant international rules and regulations;
  • Ensure all duties are performed in accordance with Company quality, health, safety, environmental and ethics policies;
  • Provide technical expertise and support to the Newbuilding Department during all phases of vessel design, construction, commissioning and delivery;
  • Review and comment on machinery-related drawings, technical specifications and vendor documentation;
  • Participate in design reviews and technical meetings with project managers and yard designers
  • Ensure compliance with contractual specifications, class requirements and applicable international standards;
  • Identify technical risks and propose corrective actions when required;
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues during construction and post-delivery periods;
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, lessons learned processes and development of Company technical standards and guidelines;
  • Mentor Newbuilding Project Managers on machinery systems and shipbuilding expertise
  • Share operational and technical experience with engineers and other departments to strengthen knowledge transfer between sea and shore
  • Provide transversal technical support to other departments when required;

 

 

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR ? 

 

  • Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or graduation from a Merchant Marine Academy / Merchant Shipping School;
  • Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency is highly desirable;
  • Strong technical knowledge of marine machinery systems, shipbuilding processes and vessel operations.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in the shipbuilding and/or maritime industry;
  • Previous experience with container vessels is strongly preferred; experience on commercial vessels is mandatory;
  • Combination of seagoing experience as Chief Engineer and shipbuilding/newbuilding supervision experience is highly preferred;
  • Experience in shipyard supervision, machinery commissioning, sea trials and vessel delivery processes;
