Position Summary:

The Tax Compliance Manager is responsible for managing the state and local tax compliance activities of the organization.  This position is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate preparation of all state and local tax returns and supporting schedules.  Lastly, this position will respond to all state/local notices or inquiries related to income tax compliance or tax payments.



This position will be responsible to:


  • Work closely with external consultants by responding to inquiries, questions, and resolving issues related to the preparation of the state and local tax returns to ensure timely and accurate preparation
  • Manage smooth and efficient collaboration with outside consultants on tax compliance, as well as future tax research and planning projects.
  • Respond to any and all State/local notices or inquiries related to tax compliance or tax payments. 
  • Research U.S. tax issues as needed.
  • Manage any and all state/local tax audits.
  • Provide assistance for internal analysis and support for the audit and appeals process.
  • Ensure compliance with regards to the company’s specific shipping tax regimes.
  • Assist the Group companies (shipping agencies/logistics) based in the Latin America region in all tax matters (tax questions, tax audit, restructuring, etc.).
  • Liaise with local management (CFO/MD) and external tax advisors to provide with appropriate answers/solutions.
  • Monitor closely the tax situation of the group companies of the Latin America region.
  • Miscellaneous related duties or projects as assigned.


Skill Sets / Education & Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in accounting, corporate tax experience, or related field required.
  • Experience working within the shipping and logistics industry is preferred. Knowledge of U.S. tax codes
  • Experience filing multistate returns
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the accounting/tax field’s concepts and principles
  • Knowledge of the international tax principles (OECD and UN model tax convention/commentaries)
  • Proficient use of technology including MS Excel required
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to understand the details and effectively share with others in a clear and concise manner.

  • Strong attention to details and accuracy
  • Ability to perform complex tasks independently, solve problems and achieve results while managing multiple priorities
  • Strong skills in tax research
  • Willing to work in an international environment
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to meet deadlines


Skill Sets / Education & Experience Preferred:

  • CPA Certification is preferred
  • Experience working within the shipping and logistics industry is preferred.
  • Ability to speak/read Spanish is an asset (but is not required).
