Sr Mgr, Equipment Procurement

Overview

The Senior Manager, Equipment Procurement is responsible for overseeing the procurement strategies and activities related to container yard operations, chassis leasing, and the maintenance of equipment used across the organization's logistics and transportation network. This role ensures the sourcing, contracting, and efficient management of container yards, chassis fleets, and equipment maintenance services to support operational needs. The Senior Manager will lead cross-functional efforts, negotiate with suppliers and service providers, manage budgets, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and drive cost optimization initiatives. In addition, this position will provide ad-hoc support of Motor Carrier procurement functions as necessary, i.e. compliance (BvD maintenance), data maintenance (truck rate database), and supplier engagement (MNT management). This position will report to the Director, Equipment Procurement.

Functions and Duties

  • Develop and execute procurement strategies for container yard services, chassis fleets, and maintenance services that align with the organization’s operational goals and objectives.
  • Negotiate contracts for chassis leasing, container yard space, maintenance, and repair services, ensuring favorable terms for the organization.
  • Collaborate with Internal stakeholders; Intermodal, Equipment, Trade, and Sales/Commercial teams to understand client requirements to meet and exceed clients expectations as they relate to price and service. Provide cost effective solutions.
  • Continue to develop KPI’s that measure strategic objectives focusing on cost effective savings initiatives. Refine reporting process to capture key metrics that drive business decisions for Executive management review.
  • Initiate and direct management of RFQ’s and related project plans as required. Initiate and direct related project plans as they relate to the strategic plan, tactical needs, and commercial requirements. Develop new methods for cost reduction initiatives by creative planning/operating practice evaluations.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with external suppliers focusing on key strategic initiatives including sustainable solutions.
  • Provide support to the Director, Equipment Procurement in all needed tasks including but not limited to data analysis, presentation, reporting, strategic planning, contract negotiation, process improvement, sourcing technology, system updates and business development. Develop and maintain SOPs for the area of responsibility and ensure compliance with companywide requirements.
  • Provide ad-hoc support of Motor Carrier procurement functions as necessary. This includes but is not limited to, compliance support, data maintenance/management, and supplier engagement.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive results.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and service providers.
  • Proficiency with procurement software, ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), and MS Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Solid understanding of transportation regulations, industry standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess complex data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required, BA, Logistics or a related field
  • General Experience 5-10 years
  • CPSM, CPIM, or PMP highly desired

At CMA CGM, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The expected salary range for this position is $95,922 - $122,284 per year. The actual salary offered will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
