Senior Transportation Manager 

YOUR ROLE 

The Senior Manager, Transportation will manage the Transportation operations with an emphasis on routing inbound and outbound shipments to ensure optimal carrier and service level selection to meet customer transit and delivery requirements. Other responsibilities include performance dashboards, customer KPI reporting, freight cost quotation, customer pricing, preparation and participation in customer business reviews, assist in carrier procurement as required (all modes). This individual will also be responsible for customer solution development, generation of BRD’s (Business Requirements Document) and implementation of these identified solutions. Strong transportation and financial analytic skills are required for customer requested analysis and service recommendations. 

 

 

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? 

  • Manage transportation planning activities, partnering with the distribution centers to ensure orders are planned in accordance with operations priorities and tendered correctly to carriers 

  • Manage Transportation Planner staff and daily planning activities, with direct interface with account management teams, resource planning, and DC operations staff. 

  • Manage international freight, import and export activity. 

  • Manage carrier and organizational compliance, i.e., NMFC classifications, dangerous goods, etc… 

  • Carrier relationship management (3PL, carriers, parcel providers, etc..) including assisting in negotiation of carrier rates and contracts. 

  • Responsible for accuracy and timely submission of monthly domestic revenue billing as applicable. 

  • Responsible for transportation analysis and reporting. 

  • Provide support, data, and carrier assistance to the Freight Audit and Payment team. 

  • Conduct periodic transportation audits with other Transportation teams, i.e., TMS, Claims, DG/HazMat, etc… to ensure quality and compliance. 

  • Communicate with and inter-act with Sales, Customers, Transportation, Operations, Vendors, and Carriers relative to all issues related to efficiently freight planning through shipments. This includes any system down time that may occur. 

  • Develop and maintain customer pricing programs, generate rate cards, and with the Transportation Financial team perform customer profitability analytics to insure organizational financial goals are achieved. 

  • Minor Essential Functions: 

  • Maintain monthly transportation Metrics Reports. 

  • Develop and document organizational procedures. 

  • Ensure accuracy and quality of international documentation. 

  • Effectively respond to designated NA IN Traffic emails with detailed answers, and whenever possible offer solutions. 

 

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Management, and/or Finance plus 3+ years' experience (OR 6yrs+ relative experience w/o degree) within transportation/logistics, e-Commerce, retail supply chain, distribution 

  • 3yrs+ of People Leadership/Management (10+ direct reports) 

  • Domestic & International experience in all modes, (i.e., air, ocean, postal, small) parcel, white glove, LTL, FTL, intermodal 

  • Knowledge of export compliance & CTPAT 

  • Knowledge of international trade agreements and customs 

  • Extensive knowledge Tariffs (LTL, TL, small parcel) 

  • Customs & Foreign Trade Zone experience 

  • Experience with shipping to big box retailers and familiarity with retail supply chain compliance programs. 

  • RFQ, Contract and Rate Negotiation experience 

  • Previous 3PL / carrier / broker experience 

  • Knowledge of TMS (Red Prairie, Blue Yonder, Blujay, Logistyx) and WMS 

  • Excellent analytic skill sets (modeling, what if’s, pricing analytics)  

  • A high degree of self-motivation and flexibility  

  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize multiple complex tasks 

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills 

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with external suppliers and customers 

  • Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio
