Apprenticeship - Global Operations Officer

MISSION:


Global Operations Efficiency is a transverse operational organization with various monitoring and advisory responsibilities on all operation challenges within CMA CGM Group.

Within this organization, the Network Efficiency team is entrusted with the responsibility to define the Operational processes, monitor the operational costs, provide analysis and recommendations to Procurement and Lines departments, being the Operations referent for all Departments within the Group.

A close partner of Network Efficiency, the Hub & Proforma team is entrusted with the responsibility to monitor the operational situation of the critical ports of the network, maintain the KPI’s allowing this follow-up, coordinate berthing plans and propose arbitration within the Lines interest in coordination with local Agents and Terminals.

This team is also responsible for proposing optimized routing and proforma schedules to the Lines, in view of reducing the consumption and carbon footprint of Group-operated vessels.

In order to maximize the learning opportunities during the apprenticeship period, the Operations Officer will split his/her role between these two teams working side by side within the same Operations Direction Department.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:


Our team oversees improving the tools & processes for all Cargo flows, producing high level KPIs and studying situations to propose improvement. You will participate in all those missions accompanied by our team of experts. 

  • You will be assigned to a large geographical scope, where you will study transversal (over several trades) questions regarding the management and projection of volumes, the optimization of the current or future network and the distribution of flows on the various terminals.
  • You will be part of the follow-up and control the structural or spot imbalance between inbound and outbound flow. You will be required to propose actions to regain an acceptable balance. This will be achieved by instructing them on the need to either divert, reduce, or increase volumes as the situation dictates.
  • You will also be expected to evaluate, the fastest and most cost-efficient solutions to these imbalance situations.
  • Furthermore, you will also oversee evaluating specific points of processes currently in place among our team or the whole Cargo flow community. This will require quick response on your side to ensure that the Best Practice Guidelines on key points to help identify irregularities is being followed, and any abnormalities are identified and brought to the attention of management : liaise with Lines, Procurement, Cost Control, Regional Offices and Agencies.
  • Your participation and input will be expected in the continuous improvement and evaluation of existing IT tools. 
  • You will be expected to follow the progression of specific KPIs and to propose improvement strategies to concerned teams.
  • You will act as a referent for operations-related questions towards other Group Departments.


SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • You are studying for a master’s degree (+ 5 years) in International Business, Transport/Logistics and have already successfully completed a first professional project.
  • You are comfortable working in English and French, both orally and in writing.
  • You have a very good command of IT and office automation tools, in particular a good level of Excel, and can handle figures with agility (familiarity with data analysis tools QlikSense, Power BI, etc.).
  • Process-oriented, trouble-shooter, able to analyze and evaluate complex interactions.
  • Self-sufficient, good at public speaking, able to explain ideas clearly.
  • Team player, able to solve problems and resolve conflicts.
