YOUR ROLE

 

CMA CGM Group has decided to structure and strengthen its R&D approach by creating a Center of Excellence dedicated to Innovation and Research. The center will increase the company’s capacity for technological and scientific innovation necessary to meet its strategic objectives (decarbonization, digitalization…), while generating profitability and ensure a high visibility on the Group’s commitment to the industry’s energy transition. It will rely on strategic industrial and academic partners experts in the maritime industry (laboratories, companies, startups, shipyards, etc.).

 

Being included in the R&D Naval Architecture team, your role will be to study, propose and support naval architecture vessel improvements, in connection with but not limited to hull performance, hull structure, propeller, rudder, stability and lashing rules in the aim of achieving emission reductions, improving vessel safety, and developing new concepts of containerships.
 


WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ?

 

During this mission you will: 

  • Support the Concept Ship and Newbuilding teams on all studies related to naval architecture design spiral
  • Follow the hydrodynamics performance studies for the various R&D projects, subcontracted to ship designers or service providers, including the review and comments of studies reports
  • Define scope of work and basis of design for new innovative requests related to hydrodynamics
  • Support the CMA Ships operational departments (Fleet Superintendents, Fleet Upgrade, Technical Department) for technical requests related to naval architecture investigation
  • Master the loading software used internally in CMA CGM and perform pre-stability and lashing studies for integration or loading checks
  • Perform more detailed stability studies with subcontractors in second phase project
  • Define area of improvement on BV/DNV-GL/ABS rules based on CMA CGM return of experience. 

 


WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR ?

 

 

  • Graduated from a MSc Degree in Marine Engineering (ENSTA, Centrale, Mines, ENSAM…)
  • At least 3 years' experience in Naval Architecture
  • Fleet support and/or project management experience would be appreciated
  • Knowledge required: 
    • Naval architecture
    • Hydrodynamics, CFD calculations
    • Ship’s propulsion
    • Structure and vibration calculations (FEM), fatigue knowledge
    • Class rules for steel vessel for container ships (BV, DNV-GL, ABS) 
  • Fluent English, a good level of French would be appreciated
