Director, Intermodal (Truck)

Position Summary:

 

Develops and implements plans and objectives for the department with a keen eye on cost savings. Oversees and coordinates daily operations. Performs audits of rail dispatching by Intermodal team. Participates in budget development, monitoring of expenses, and sets pricing that aligns with organizational objectives. Works collaboratively with other departments to ensure priorities are aligned and larger company objectives are being considered in overall plans and objectives of the department. Generates progress reports for leadership. Sees to department staffing needs (e.g. interviewing, hiring, new hire and ongoing training, annual evaluations, etc.). Responsible for deployment of massification and inland optimization initiatives.

 

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

 

  • Supervising, mentoring and managing team
  • Maintaining relationships with customers, partners and other stakeholders
  • Evaluating company processes and procedures to solve issues and standardize the work related to those processes.
  • Develop goals and initiatives to direct the department’s budget and overall savings and volume goals to align with larger company Opex targets.
  • Communicate with company leadership regarding goal progression and market challenges. Ensure weekly/month reports are generated and distributed to the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Works closely with procurement and suppliers to ensure business continuity and system integration related to the daily functions of running the domestic business.
  • Develop, implement, and manage operational processes and systems to ensure efficiency and customer satisfaction
  • Miscellaneous related duties or projects as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

 

  • Knowledge of shipping industry
  • Supply chain management knowledge
  • Pricing/market data concepts
  • Management experience
  • Computer skills to include excel as well as ability to navigate operations systems
  • Customer service skills
  • Ability to cumulate and analyze data from several sources
  • Technical skills in process management and improvement
  • Ability to leverage relationships and data to make recommendations to leadership
  • Ability to lead a team

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years general work experience; 5+ years of industry experience.
