Fleet efficiency & retrofit engineer

CMA Ships is also a team of experts responsible for implementing innovative solutions and making CMA CGM vessels more energy efficient.


CMA CGM Group has decided to structure and strengthen its R&D approach by creating a Center of Excellence dedicated to Innovation and Research. The center will increase the company’s capacity for technological and scientific innovation necessary to meet its strategic objectives (decarbonization, digitalization…), while generating profitability and ensure a high visibility on the Group’s commitment to industry’s energy transition. It will rely on strategic industrial and academic partners experts in the maritime industry (laboratories, companies, startups, shipyards, etc.).


You will work closely with R&D team involved in IMO23-retrofit project on owned and chartered vessels, and in collaboration with the technical team of Chartering department. You will report to the R&D organization, based in Head Office in Marseille.
During this mission, you will work on CMA CGM chartered fleet performance improvement and compliance to CO2 IMO regulations, adapting the methodology currently deployed on CMA CGM owned fleet.
You will in particular oversee:
-    Scan of the chartered fleet and priorities identification with chartering team
-    For high priority series:
o    Audit of current technologies installed and vessel performances, and consolidation of power reduction for EEXI compliance
o    Estimation for each series of fuel pre-savings and Carbon Intensity Index improvements for multiple technologies that can be implemented in retrofit (propellers, bulbous bow, pre-swirl stators, windshields, scantling draft increase, shaft generators, …)
o    Selection of retrofit package for each series with chartering team
o    Technical specification redaction for tenders to makers, review of technical offers with chartering team
o    Discussions and negotiations with owners to validate the retrofits and who will bear the costs, as technical support to chartering team
o    Review and validation of design done by subcontractors
o    Handover package to chartering team and fleet upgrade team that will apply the retrofits during next vessel drydock
o    Support of the drydock team during retrofit
-    This methodology to be applied then for mid and low priority vessels


Profile and required skills: 
Graduated MSC degree in marine engineering (ENSTA, Centrale, Mines, ENSAM…), with naval architecture experience and, preferably fleet support and/or project management experience in another company.

-    Lashing 
-    Structure and vibration calculations (FEM), fatigue knowledge 
-    Class rules for steel vessel for container ships (BV, DNV-GL, ABS) 
-    Class rules for lashing 

Working language is English, being French Speaker is a plus.
