Internship - Fleet Junior Superintendent

THE ROLE

 

Work within the Fleet Management Department under Fleet Manager's supervision.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1. Compliance and Policy Adherence:

  • Ensure compliance with IMS and international regulations
  • Execute all duties in alignment with quality, health, safety, environmental, and ethics policies.

 

2. Performance Improvement:

  • Develop and periodically report on a continuous performance improvement plan
  • Contribute to cross-functional project implementation.

 

3. Vessel Management:

  • Assist in managing one or more vessels under the Fleet Manager's guidance, like a Superintendent.

 

4. Vessel Maintenance Oversight:

  • Monitor vessel performance, fuel quality, and maintenance programs
  • Track planned maintenance software for potential operational impacts
  • Organize maintenance during voyages and ensure vessel reliability
  • Supervise shipboard organization in cooperation with the master and Chief Engineers
  • Manage spare parts availability and requests
  • Attend vessels as directed by the Fleet Manager when required
  • Handle damage claims, including stevedores' damages, in cooperation with the Legal Department
  • Follow up on defect reports and guarantee claims promptly
  • Implement actions based on relevant experience feedback

 

5. Dry Dock Preparation:

  • Assist the Superintendent throughout drydock operations
  • Manage drydock responsibilities under Fleet Manager's supervision.

 

6. Budget Monitoring:

  • Monitor and control vessel operating costs to maintain budget compliance
  • Cost reflection: maintenance and expenses optimization.

 

7. Crew Management:

  • Monitor crew overtime in accordance with company policy
  • Track and improve rest/work hours compliance
  • Promptly inform the Marine Human Resources Department (MHRD) of any issues.

 

8. Certificates, Inspections, and Surveys:

  • Plan safety inspections, statutory, and classification surveys to uphold statutory and classification certificates (excluding ISM, ISPS, MLC certificates)
  • Notify relevant authorities of vessel deficiencies.

 

 

PROFILE & COMPETENCIES

 

  • Master's degree (Master II) / Naval Engineering or Generalist Engineering degree accepted / French National Maritime School (ENSM)
  • Proficiency in various software tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Mandatory English, French is appreciated
  • Someone who has already sailed is preferable but not essential
  • Strong communicator, motivated, serious, and rigorous. Capable of receiving constructive feedback
