Naval Architect R&D Concept Ships

THE ROLE :

 

CMA CGM R&D department is preparing new concept ships to imagine and anticipate next generation container vessels with new propulsion systems and future clean fuels. Multiple paths are foreseen, and your mission will be to explore these multiple paths with a dedicated research team and help selecting the most promising few. From this selection, concept ship shall be designed before starting basic design and technical specification for shipyards.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES :

 

  • You will work closely with the R&D multidisciplinary team dedicated on this project, including naval architects, engine, material and onboard system specialists, and you will in particular oversee:
  • Research and selection of partners to develop collaboratively concept designs
  • Interact with multiple departments in CMA CGM to consolidate the ship technical specification
  • Manage first loops of ship design
  • Coordinate with partners and subcontractors to evaluate various concept and technology performances
  • Study technology integration and optimize vessel arrangements
  • Interface with class societies to build up new rules for future fuels
  • Coordinate multifield studies (Hazid / Hazop ; Life Cycle Analysis ; Bunkering options ; gas dispersion ; ..)
  • Prepare communication media on developed concept ships
  • Redact technical specification for shipyard based on obtained concepts

 

 

PROFILE AND QUALIFICATIONS :

 

  • Graduated MSC degree in marine engineering (ENSTA, Centrale, Mines, ENSAM…), with naval architecture experience and, preferably project management experience in another company. 
  • Knowledge required: 
    • Naval architecture 
    • Ship’s propulsion
    • Steel structure
    • Class rules for steel vessel for container ships (BV, DNV-GL, ABS)
    • Preferably experience with low carbon fuel project (LNG / H2 / NH4 / methanol)
  • You are proactive, organized, and able to work autonomously with minimal supervision and in relation with several teams.
  • You have a strong team spirit and continuous improvement is part of your vision. 
  • You have excellent oral and writing skills, enabling you to communicate with all types of people.
  • You have the ability to work in coordination with external parties, as partners as well as subcontractors. 
  • Working language is English, being French Speaker is a plus.
