Navcom Expert

 

CMA Ships, a subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group, covers all facets of the maritime business: from the fleet management of the vessels to that of the crew members.
CMA Ships is also a team of experts responsible for implementing innovative solutions and making CMA CGM vessels more energy efficient.

 

The Role:

 

The NAVCOM expert is the privileged interlocutor of vessels, CMA SHIPS Superintendents and transversal services (Technical Partners, Purchasing, HSE, Newbuildings, etc.) concerning the maintenance of Navigation and Communication equipment.
As such, the NAVCOM expert implements the appropriate actions in order to meet the technical and regulatory standards (numerous interactions with the SSE on these subjects), the deadlines and the CMA SHIPS standards to ensure the maintenance in operational condition of the CMA SHIPS Fleets.

 


Responsibilities:

 

Main roles of the NAVCOM service:

  1. Respond remotely to all maintenance requests or technical advice from ships, concerning the Navigation and Communication equipment. This is the heart of the NAVCOM expert's job, ensuring the compliance of ships through coordinated and monitoring support. About 40 types of on-board equipment and software to support. Most of equipment are subject to PSC Statutory rules and may be subject to Deficiencies or Detention.
  2. Work in close relation with the Fleet IT Engineers, in charge of IT support for ships. NAVCOM is the only referent for all Navigation and Communication equipment (more than 40 in total). To do this NAVCOM is the main interlocutor between Superintendents, Ships and Makers. Most ships are under maintenance contract and NAVCOM retains control by coordinating services, facilitating exchanges and providing expertise for greater operational efficiency
  3. Manage on-board interventions, with the various service providers contracted by CMA SHIPS (Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine and Wartsila SAM Electronics, but also non-contractual services). Ensure cost control and budgeting from one year to the next: services, overhaul, excluding RETROFIT Dedicated contacts within SPERRY and WARTSILA for faster consideration of needs. Where NAVCOM is particularly involved in matters under maintenance contracts: Risk assessment (ship navigation, RoN and PSC especially), considering ports and statutory given deadline for the intervention

 

 

Qualifications and Profile:

 

  • Master’s degree in engineering with 3 to 5 years’ experience in support for vessel in its field of competencies; 
  • Fluent in English;
  • Management or Project management skills;
  • Technically competent with various software programs, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc;
  • Knowledge required in its field of competencies Experience.
