YOUR ROLE


The Customs Clearance Manager will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the customs clearance team in Alexandria branch, including customs brokers and the customs operations team. This role will ensure efficient and compliant customs clearance processes for all inbound and outbound shipments.

 

In addition to managing operational and compliance aspects, the Customs Clearance Manager will play a key role in business development, focusing on acquiring new customers and expanding relationships with existing clients.

 

The Customs Clearance Manager will have a strong understanding of international trade regulations, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex operations within a multinational environment.

 

 

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

 

1. Leadership and Team Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of customs brokers and operations staff to ensure high performance and compliance with company standards and government regulations.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of the team in customs and trade compliance.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback and coaching.

 

2. Customs Clearance Operations:

  • Oversee and manage all customs clearance processes for imports and exports, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations.
  • Coordinate with customs authorities and other regulatory bodies to resolve issues and facilitate smooth customs clearance.
  • Review and approve customs documentation, including declarations, invoices, and certificates of origin.

 

3. Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure all customs procedures comply with applicable laws and regulations, including tariff classification, valuation, and origin.
  • Monitor changes in customs regulations and update internal processes accordingly.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to customs clearance, such as delays, fines, and penalties.

 

4. Business Development and Sales:

  • Identify new business opportunities and develop strategies to attract and acquire new customers for customs clearance services.
  • Engage in commercial activities, including preparing proposals, conducting sales presentations, and negotiating contracts with potential clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing customers to understand their needs and identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling additional services.
  • Collaborate and conduct joint customers’ visits with the Business Development / Sales / KAMs teams to develop targeted campaigns and promotional activities to increase market share.

 

 

5. Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customs authorities, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal departments such as sales, logistics, and finance to optimize customs clearance processes and support business goals.
  • Manage relationships with third-party service providers and negotiate contracts as needed.

 

6. Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings in customs clearance operations.
  • Implement best practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Utilize technology and software solutions to streamline customs clearance processes.

 

7. Reporting and Analysis:

  • Prepare and present regular reports on customs clearance activities, KPIs, sales performance, and compliance metrics to Management and Product Heads.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior management on customs-related and business development matters.

 

 

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Transportation, Supply Chain Management or related field of study is a Must.
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Transportation, Supply Chain management or related field of study is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of Customs brokerage management in International Freight Forwarding and/or Integrated Logistics service providers.
  • Customer Service and Operational experience is a Must.
  • Good Knowledge of Ocean Freight and Ground Freight products is a must.
  • Proven ability to lead teams in a matrix structure.
  • Very good English skills in spoken and written is a must.
  • Very good French skills in spoken and written is a plus.
  • Excellent MS Office user knowledge (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, MS-Project).
  • Excellent command of Negotiation power and quality / compliance awareness.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills as well as motivation skills.
  • Very good analytical and conceptual skills in combination with strong entrepreneurial action and critical thinking.
  • Excellent and up-to-date specialist and market-specific knowledge.
  • Structured, strategic as well as solution- and goal-oriented way of working.
