Ground Operations Lead

Responsible for a wide variety of administrative and oversight related tasks to support the operation, as well as leading and monitoring warehouse floor employees in their daily job functions. Assign routes to drivers and owner-operators, coordinating shipments according to customer instructions and ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and established internal policies and guidelines. Models and acts in accordance with our guiding principles and core values.
Typical Responsibilities:
- Provide support and coordination to management.
- Maintain a variety of records, either or both electronic and paper.
- Communicate to a variety of sources including the customer via fax, email, paper, telephone and in person.
- Lead clerks, packers, material handlers and pickers in making sure the operations are running properly.
- Perform special projects as directed by supervisor and management staff.
- Ensure that all personnel are providing a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
- Ensure prompt and accurate completion of all paperwork associated with movement of inbound and outbound shipments.
- Ensure timely pick-ups, recoveries, deliveries, and airline and agent selection, while maintaining cost controls.
- Communicate pending work and/or unresolved problems to the following shift personnel and the operations manager.
- Dispatch drivers for domestic shipment pick-ups and deliveries.
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and established internal policies and guidelines.
- Prioritize time sensitive cargo.
- Notify drivers of pick-up and delivery assignments.
- Maintain shipment information under the Customs control document.
- Ensure required paperwork is submitted timely to Import personnel.
- Read and assimilate stored data and enter new data in computer database.
- Assist with shrink-wrapping, loading and downloading freight, verifying the labeling of domestic shipments, and noting the count and condition of cargo received.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:

- PC Literate. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific software applications.
- Capable of communicating and interacting effectively with multi-functional and diverse backgrounds.
- Accurate typing skills and/or data entry skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
- Responds promptly and professionally to customer needs
- Ability to lead projects and others.
- Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities.
- Organizational skills and ability to prioritize in demanding environments with tight deadlines.
- Consistently at work and on time
- Must be able to read, write and speak English and French fluently.
Minimum:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum one year experience in manufacturing or warehouse with shipping and receiving experience.
Preferred:
- Leadership experience.
- LEAN Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement and Kaizen, 5-S knowledge.
