Cargo Readiness Assistant

On a contract basis for transpacific cargo moving under a CMA CGM bill of lading, this position proactively monitors and tracks the movement of export cargo after booking to ensure that the customer will deliver cargo and related documentation within the established timeframes and is available and ready for loading on vessels, coordinates at the direction of management, container, booking, and documentation activities with other departments such as Bookings, Cargo Flow, Equipment, Logistics, Operations, and customers to achieve full vessels with reduced booking fall-down and timely delivery of export cargo, and communicates with customers and other departments regarding:
• Cargo for a given voyage or whether it will be rolled or canceled
• Receipt of complete documentation
• Information and documentation to ensure it is accurate and up to date in the data system (LARA) and at the terminal.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Track, monitor, and follow up on timely delivery of cargo by customers, local & rail customers as authorized or directed by management.
2. Follow up with customers for timely delivery of documentation. Ensure all export cargo meets regulatory requirements in place for each service.
3. Recognize and promptly act on shipment follow-up and call cleaning based upon cargo documentation delivery.
4. Coordinate with Cargo Flow and take authorized actions to ensure clean load lists at the time of cut.
5. Accurately enter information into data system (LARA) including information needed to reconcile issues and problems.
6. Proactively contact the sales team and customers with falls-downs or missing shippers for any given sailing in order to react effectively to ensure full vessels. Work with the sales team to ensure a cooperative and coordinated focus.
7. Coordinate late gate requests.
8. Work with multiple layers of network, terminal, & operational departments, both internal and external as authorized or directed by management.
9. Courteously and accurately identify non-standard operational costs, ensuring all applicable charges are properly billed.
10. Other duties as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school degree or equivalent required.
2. 2+ years industry experience required.
3. Typing 35 wpm (proficiency to be tested).

15. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook. Working knowledge of pivot tables beneficial
16. Must have flexibility to work any shift from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
17. For Internal candidates: Minimum three-year work relevant transportation experience (including 6 months experience involving direct customer interaction) combining any three of the following areas:
International Tariffs
Ocean Documentation
Equipment
Freight Cashier
Sales/Customer Service
Operations
Logistics
Cargo Delivery
Must demonstrate an acceptable level of knowledge in each area. Equivalent training in the Customer Service Center may be substituted for the above.
18. Excellent attendance record during the past 12 months.
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Bachelor’s degree or some college coursework preferred.
2. Experience in the transportation industry is preferred.
3. Experience in team-based environment and Quality tools and techniques preferred.
