Manager, Cargo Readiness

Position Summary
Manage day-to day container movement of all export loaded containers. Ensure all export loads scheduled for specific services and delivered within the timeframes are received and loaded to the vessel as planned. Collaborate proactively with other departments such as Bookings, Cargo Care, Cargo Flow, Equipment, Logistics, Operations, Sales and Trade and customers to reduce export booking fall offs. Maintain idle export containers at a minimum and ensure outstanding issues are resolved. Ensure that all possible export demurrage is invoiced accurately and timely. Maintain and report accurate data on status of bookings and loaded containers. Establish priorities, develop processes and procedures, and provide direction to the Cargo Management team.
Functions & Duties
• Analyze and resolve escalated issues within Cargo Management, with other internal departments and external customers and exhaust all options to ensure customers are provided with top level of customer service from CCA/APL. Make decisions that will appease customer and will have least cost impact to CCA/APL.
• Create weekly demurrage audit report and evaluate results against expected performance. Create daily no activity reports and assign workload to coordinators to contact customers. Ensure applicable reporting is maintained for all employees’ KPI performances for demurrage invoicing, rail tracking and tracing, no activity bookings, vessel cleanup, idle bookings, email notifications to customers, and database comments
• Develop new processes/policies and evaluate existing processes related to Cargo Management functions to ensure that business needs are properly addressed and make changes as applicable. Coordinate with other departments to ensure that policies/processes are followed as applicable and that “hand-offs” are completed within the established parameters.
• Meet weekly with the Cargo Readiness Management team for discussion with employees regarding current processes and service/port updates. Participate in meetings with representatives and management from other internal departments to work together to improve current processes. Attend Operations meeting to discuss recent issues as required.
• Reach out to customers with no container activity to aid in vessel forecasting prior to the port cut and assist with billing demurrage when necessary.
• Involved in the hiring process and interviewing candidates for open positions. Ensure that timekeeping and reporting time-off for staff is accurately maintained and kept current by the Supervisor. Counsel employees when necessary for needed improvement and personnel issues

• Able to establish goals and manage day to day activities to attain the goals.
• Strong analytical skills to assess situations and resolve problems or look for opportunities to improve processes/procedures.
• Good attention to detail and strong organization abilities with excellent follow-up skills.
• Strong computer skills to include Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word). Working knowledge of pivot tables and macros beneficial.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Able to handle difficult situations in a professional manner
• Advance knowledge of Cargo Management general operating procedures
• Strong knowledge of CMA CGM operating programs and terminal operating systems
• Previous management experience
• Able to review reports and analyze business trends or patterns reflected in the reports

At American President Lines, we are committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The expected salary range for this position is $74,000 - $92,500 per year. The actual salary offered will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, and location.
