Senior Financial Controller

Summary 

 

The Senior Financial Controller supports the CFO in making finance a true business partner for all of APL’s activities worldwide. The position supports activities through budget, financial planning, analysis, modeling and forecasting for current operations and business scenarios. 

Through process review and data analysis, the position ensures optimal efficiency of the finance teams, and leads finance projects such as organizational transformation, performance monitoring and improvement, process improvements, deployment and alignment with the CMA core model. 

The Sr Financial Controller ensures adherence to the Group (CMA CGM and APL) policies and KPIs, partnerwith agencies and GBS entities around the world. 

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities 

 

  1. Oversee Accounting, Controlling and Collections function by managing GL Manager, AP team and Collections Control tower locally and partnering with agency network and global shared service centers to meet all deliverables and deadlines. 
  2. Oversee services provided by agency network to include Business Control, Cost Control, DDSM and Tax. 
  3. Establish, monitor and report worldwide APL KPIs. 
  4. Based on P&L fluctuations vs budget, liaise with local business and operations teams to implement corrective actions and assist with cost control and cost avoidance initiatives. 
  5. Monitor the development and implementation of finance systems and controls to ensure efficiency. 
  6. Lead the annual budgeting process; coordinate requirements with Senior Leadership; ensure consolidation within Group deadlines. 
  7. Monitor intercompany activity; ensure proper reporting and matching with other entities of the Group. 
  8. Supervise and approve the development of financial report formats for the Company and various stakeholders. 
  9. Manage the external and internal audits and ensure that audit reports are issued in line with group and/or local requirements. Coordinate actions for issues identified. 

 

 

Skills and Knowledge 

 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA, MBA, or other evidence of advanced knowledge of accounting and finance matters.  
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of management experience in a corporate or public accounting environment. 
  • Comfortable making decisions supporting change and recommending new approaches to the way we do business.  
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; leading by example. 
  • Strong leadership, team building, people management skills. Strong time management and organization skills 
  • Experienced in managing financial audits. 
  • Experienced in budgeting and forecasting. 
  • Ability to work well under pressure independently. Perform and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Meet deadlines. 
  • Solid analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills. 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite Products (MS Word, EXCEL, etc.) and experience with SAP. 
  • Knowledge of US Government contract management preferred.
