Journeyman Maintenance Technician - Refrigerated Systems (7:00AM-3:30PM)

Position Summary

American President Lines,LLC is seeking a full-time, skilled and experienced Journeyman Maintenance Technician to join the team at Port of Seattle Terminal 18. This role is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on refrigerated systems (reefers) installed in intermodal shipping containers. The technician may also be required to service and repair generators and other power equipment, and must be capable of operating service trucks and forklifts as part of daily operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in refrigeration systems, electrical troubleshooting, and mechanical maintenance, and will work in accordance with IAM union guidelines and safety standards. 

Candidates must be available to work either of two scheduled shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. 

 

 

Functions & Duties 

Repair Yard 

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on refrigerated container units (Carrier, TK, Daikin, Star Cool) 
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and refrigeration system issues  
  • Conduct inspection and testing to ensure equipment meets operational and safety standards 
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation of work performed  
  • Service and repair generators and auxiliary power equipment as operational needs require  
  • Operate service trucks and forklifts to transport tools, equipment and containers as needed  
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and software to troubleshoot and calibrate reefer units. 

 

Spare Parts Shop 

  • Manage and maintain spare parts inventory levels 
  • Coordinate with suppliers to order and replenish parts as needed 
  • Ensure timely delivery of parts to support maintenance activities 
  • Monitor stock levels and perform regular inventory audits 
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory transactions 
  • Identify and resolve issues related to spare parts availability 
  • Prepare reports on inventory status and part usage 

 

Other Responsibilities 

  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures 
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification programs as required. 
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and union work rules. 
  • Job Site / Functions will vary subject to the business requirements  

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities    

  • Experience operating service trucks and forklifts in an industrial or port setting. 
  • Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, and mechanical components. 
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams. 
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs. 
  • Must be available to work either of two scheduled shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. 
  • Must be eligible to work in a secure port environment and pass background checks. This includes possession of a valid Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).

License or Certification 

Required Valid EPA Section 608 Technician Certification (Type II or Universal). 

Required Certification to handle R134a and R404 refrigerants required. 

Required Valid driver’s license and forklift certification required. 

Required  Valid Transportation Worker Identification card
