YOUR ROLE :
The Competition Law team at CMA CGM is looking for a Competition Lawyer.
If you wish to work on diverse and exciting issues within a team of competition law experts, in a group present in over 160 countries and committed to energy transition, this position is for you.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?
Within the Group Legal Department's Competition team and reporting to the Group's Head of Competition Law, you will advise CMA CGM Group entities (headquarters and subsidiaries) on all issues related to the application of competition law (mainly antitrust law and merger control).
As a member of a team of four lawyers based in Marseille, you will provide your expertise in competition law to assist all operational entities of the Group worldwide (shipping lines, terminals, logistics services, procurement, media and press companies, etc.) as well as other Group lawyers. Your expertise will also lead you to analyze the notifiability of contemplated M&A transactions and manage the preparation and follow-up of merger notifications to the relevant competition authorities.
Your main tasks include:
- Ensuring the legal validity of operational partnerships according to the evolution of local regulations, particularly maritime cooperation agreements (alliances, consortia, other horizontal cooperation agreements);
- Providing technical support in the context of the Group's merger operations and coordinating, substantively and procedurally, the simultaneous notification of these operations before multiple jurisdictions;
- Monitoring pre-litigation and litigation procedures worldwide and coordinating all responses to requests from competition authorities;
- Participating in the development of internal procedures and tools for raising awareness of competition law compliance and deploying competition law training actions for the Group's operational staff;
- Involvement in contract reviews and potentially working on regulatory matters (notification of partnership agreements, regulation of tariff surcharges, environmental aspects, etc.);
- Ensuring legal and regulatory monitoring on competition and sectoral issues.
In these tasks, you will interact with multiple French and foreign stakeholders, both internally (legal and operational teams) and externally (lawyers, economists, administrative authorities, contractual partners, professional associations, etc.).
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
You hold a Master 2 in Law and have between three to five years of experience in competition law. You are proficient in both English and French, spoken and written. Advanced proficiency in IT and digital tools is essential. Experience related to the transport, logistics chain management, or media and press sectors would be a significant advantage. Previous experience in law firms or competition authorities will also be valued.
You possess excellent communication skills, particularly in simplifying competition law topics. Additionally, you can respond effectively under tight deadlines to complex requests, demonstrating organization and diplomacy.
Your rigor, responsiveness, adaptability, and analytical and synthesis skills will enable you to best safeguard the interests of the CMA CGM Group.
Come along on CMA CGM’s adventure !
