INTERNSHIP - Maritime Legal Assistant - Maritime Litigations

YOUR ROLE


As a maritime legal assistant trainee within the Legal Department at the CMA CGM head office, you will be in charge of handling claims presented in relation to the company's activities, as well as providing support and advice to operational and commercial teams and protecting the company against legal risks and violations. You will report to the maritime litigation manager within the maritime litigation department.

 

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

 

•    You will monitor and report on claims and legal matters in your geographical area with the help of the group's network of agencies and regional offices, in accordance with the organization established by the legal department.
•    You will manage claims coverage by P&I clubs and the group's insurers.
•    You will appoint and supervise external law firms to defend CMA CGM's interests and manage recoveries from third parties.
•    You will monitor the financial data of your cases using internal computer systems accurately.
•    In close collaboration with your supervisors, and within the limits of your authority, you will also negotiate settlements with claimants and third parties.
•    Proactively, you will anticipate and propose legal/operational solutions as necessary.
•    Finally, you will stay constantly informed and up-to-date with new legal developments (regulations, case law) in your area of responsibility.
•    You may be assigned specific tasks related to documentation and/or contract review, fraud, or recovery cases.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

 

•    You are preparing a BAC +5 (Master 2) in maritime law, transport law, or insurance law.
•    You are fluent in English.
•    You have good command of computer tools.
•    You are autonomous, very rigorous, and have a good analytical mind.
•    You are proactive with a strong sense of initiative.
•    You have negotiation skills and excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
