A Business Controller is responsible for overseeing and managing financial planning, analysis, and reporting within an organization. They work closely with senior management to develop and implement financial strategies, monitor performance, and provide insights to support decision-making. Business Controllers also ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies, and may be involved in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of financial principles are essential for success in this role.
Description:
Flash / Forecast: Identify list of voyages assigned to each management period. Collect operational data (Voyage schedules / fuel prices etc…) to prepare slot cost and slot revenue estimates. Collect commercial assumptions (volumes / revenue / cargo mix) to estimate contributions. Submit draft to Management for validation and issue Flash/Forecast reporting. Gap analysis to prevent/reduce deviations.
12 month rolling forecast: to be updated every quarter with same process and assumptions as Flash / Forecast.
Budget: to be prepared annually with same process and assumptions as Flash / Forecast
Actual results: produce monthly management results in Load Engine. Clear all errors & missing costs. Validate volumes. Compute vessel & voyage costs. Input slot revenue & slot purchases. Have Documentation teams add missing revenue in Lara before period close. Work with Trade team to review low/negative contributions. Use Qlikview to analyze & validate result accuracy. Prepare monthly result report including variance analysis.
Standard costs: Ensure missing/new costs (Charter rates / stevedoring / Transport / G&A etc…) are updated in Load Engine. For costs managed by other teams, highlight any issue for correction. Actual / Estimated costs gap analysis to identify and adjust costs as necessary.
Revenue/cost/profitability analysis and KPI reports: prepare as required by the Lines or other Departments. Alert Management on cost overrun and provide support for corrective actions. Work with Trade and Ops team to identify cost saving opportunities.
