About the Role: 

 

Reporting to: Operations Manager - Intra Oceania
Employment Type: Permanent Full-Time
Work Location: Melbourne

 

As a Ship Planning Manager, you will optimize cargo stowage and vessel utilization, ensuring safety and cost-efficiency. You will create schedules for vessels, monitor operations across ports, and address disruptions. You’ll manage the handling of special cargo, minimize risks, and ensure compliance with regulations, while striving for continuous operational improvements and cost savings.

 

The role and responsibilities will include:

 

  • Plan and coordinate cost effective cargo stowage and utilisation of ANL and its Consortium members’ vessels to ensure all safety requirements are met
  • Plan and issue schedules of vessels engaged in designated trades in order to optimise asset utilisation. Monitoring and ensuring vessels work through all ports and terminals in the most expeditious and cost-effective manner whist initiating remedial action in the event of any disruption to the schedule
  • Coordinate and provide technical and cost assistance in the carriage of hazardous, break bulk, over dimensional and awkward cargo, to ensure costs are minimised, ANL exposure to risk is minimised and statutory requirements are met
  • Pursue operational efficiency and cost saving through continuous improvement
  • Obtain vessel specs/stowage structure and vessel limitations from Line Operations Manager/Vessel when vessel phasing in

 

To be successful in this role, you will need:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in nautical studies or an equivalent level of seagoing Certificate of Competency
  • Minimum 4-5 years’ experience in the Operational aspects of the shipping industry
  • Practical experience in the terminal/shipboard operational aspect of the shipping industry
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize, meet deadlines, cope with changing circumstances and people
