Head of Asia Commercial Desk

Role Overview
Reporting to the Vice President, ANL Lines, you will be responsible for defining the ANL NVO commercial development strategy including tender management, pricing, and cargo mix for ANL Asia Trades, ensuring alignment with Line Management and Group objectives while strengthening customer satisfaction. You will also oversee ANL’s performance on the Spot On product ex Asia and supervise all Asia-controlled tenders, from strategic preparation through contract finalization and ongoing management, in accordance with Group commercial policies and in close coordination with the Head of the Oceania Commercial Desk.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the annual account target-setting process, ensuring alignment with budget objectives, customer ratings, and cargo mix strategy, in coordination with Heads of Lines, Senior Line Managers, Commercial Line Managers, Regional Offices, and Sales Agencies.
- Accountable for retaining and growing the customer portfolio by anticipating market trends, evolving customer expectations, and emerging business needs.
- Develop and position the Key Account team as the central hub for account performance oversight, pricing governance, and customer issue management.
- Coordinate the collection and dissemination of market intelligence, Group best practices, and customer care insights.
- Establish and facilitate regular QBRs/MBRs to review performance on ANL trades, identify gaps, and drive corrective actions with Line Managers, Regional Offices, and Sales Agencies.
- Deliver regular reporting to Line Management, including customer performance tracking, pricing policy updates, CSA allocation adjustments, and customer meeting coordination.
- Ensure full compliance and effective end-to-end management of ANL tenders—from bid preparation and evaluation through negotiation, contract award, and performance monitoring.
- Strengthen cross-functional and cross-Group collaboration to provide unified customer responses and ensure adoption of Group tender tools and processes within ANL.
- Represent the Liner Department in key Business Solutions and IT committees, ensuring deliverables align with operational and commercial requirements.
- Lead customer presentations and handle ad hoc escalations related to disputes, booking issues, or shipment releases.
- Drive high-level commercial discussions with key customers (annual budgets, LTAs, VID agreements) in partnership with Line Management.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with major ANL customers in Asia, industry partners, and senior leaders across international shipping companies.
- Maintain active engagement with industry associations and research bodies to stay abreast of emerging market developments and industry trends.
What We’re Looking for:
- At least 10 years of experience in commercial and trade roles within the shipping industry.
- Strong knowledge of the Oceania markets and deep familiarity with ANL’s customer base.
- Proven ability to influence, negotiate, and resolve highly complex issues across diverse forums, both in Australia and internationally.
- Demonstrated leadership and people-management skills with a track record of delivering results.
- Effective in leading and coordinating teams across multiple and remote locations.
- Established track record of success in senior leadership roles.
