Strategic Business Development Manager
ANL is an expert container shipping company to and from Australia, New Zealand and Oceania. ANL has a branch network in South East Asia, China and Oceania and offers bespoke services through ANL Logistics and ANL Container Hire & Sales in Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Role Overview
In this role, you will be responsible for driving the development and management of new business opportunities for ANL Lines, in alignment with CMA CGM Group policies and directives, as set by the CMA CGM Executive Team and/or the ANL Singapore (ANLS) Board of Directors (BoD). You will play a strategic role in identifying, assessing, and executing growth initiatives that support ANL’s long-term commercial objectives.
Additionally, you will lead marketing intelligence efforts, ensuring timely reporting and continuous enhancement of analytical tools to support strategic decision-making. These activities will directly support Senior Line Management, enabling data-driven planning and strengthening ANL’s market responsiveness across the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, develop, and conduct commercial and financial analysis of new business opportunities for ANL’s shipping activities, in line with directives set by the CMA CGM Executive Team and/or the ANLS BoD.
- Provide high-level commercial analysis and strategic support to ANL Line Management and BoD members, including assessments of maritime services, vessel chartering evaluations, and financial modeling for potential acquisitions or partnerships.
- Plan, negotiate, and lead the implementation of new business initiatives in collaboration with ANL and ANLS BoD members, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Maintain ongoing competitor intelligence activities to assess strengths, weaknesses, and market dynamics, and provide strategic recommendations to protect and grow ANL’s market footprint, particularly in Oceania.
- Support Line Management in the production and continuous enhancement of comprehensive competitor and market analyses.
- Contribute to the development and execution of strategic initiatives aligned with Group directives, including the launch of new maritime services, vessel chartering or newbuilding plans, and terminal investment evaluations.
- Coordinate and evaluate cross-functional input from Commercial Line Managers, Sales, Operations, Finance, and regional offices to support major business decisions.
- Lead and manage end-to-end feasibility studies for new shipping activities, from early identification and analysis through to final submission and approval.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive project studies and ensure smooth transition and handover to operational or business units.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum 2–3 years of proven experience in the shipping industry, ideally with a background in sales and marketing.
- Proficient in a range of business software applications (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, data analysis tools, CRM systems).
- Strong understanding of shipping industry products, services, and market dynamics.
- Demonstrated commercial and financial acumen with the ability to assess business viability and profitability.
- Interest in emerging trends, technologies, and innovations shaping the maritime and logistics sectors.
- Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and navigate cross-functional business issues.
- Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, with the ability to work transversally across teams and functions to drive results.
