The primary responsibility of the Sales Manager – Freight Forwarding is to identify and acquire new business opportunities within the freight forwarding and logistics industry through networking, market research, referrals, and other lead-generation activities. The role involves developing strategic sales plans, building strong customer relationships, and driving revenue growth across Air Freight, Ocean Freight, and associated logistics services.
The incumbent will be responsible for generating leads, developing key accounts, negotiating commercial agreements, and closing profitable business opportunities while contributing individually to overall sales performance and organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, prospect, and develop new business opportunities in Freight Forwarding, including Air Freight, Ocean Freight, and integrated logistics solutions.
- Generate potential leads and convert them into long-term business relationships.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing customers, shippers, consignees, and key stakeholders.
- Develop and implement effective sales strategies to increase market share and revenue growth.
- Analyse market trends, customer requirements, competitor activities, and pricing structures.
- Prepare and present customized logistics and freight solutions based on customer requirements.
- Negotiate rates, contracts, and commercial terms with clients in coordination with internal teams.
- Coordinate closely with Operations, Pricing, Customer Service, and Finance teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Achieve assigned sales targets, profitability objectives, and business KPIs.
- Maintain regular follow-ups with customers to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and retention.
- Prepare and submit monthly sales reports, pipeline updates, forecasts, and MIS reports.
- Monitor sales activities and control business development expenses within approved budgets.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, business ethics, and industry regulations.
- Support the Regional Sales Head in implementing annual sales plans and business growth initiatives.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of Freight Forwarding, Supply Chain, and Logistics operations.
- Excellent sales, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Strong communication and presentation abilities.
- Ability to identify customer needs and provide effective logistics solutions.
- Result-oriented with strong business acumen and commercial understanding.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple customer accounts.
- Proficiency in MS Office and CRM/Sales reporting tools.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Supply Chain, Marketing, or related field.
- Relevant experience in Freight Forwarding Sales / Logistics Sales.
- Good knowledge of Air Freight, Ocean Freight, Customs Clearance, and end-to-end logistics services.
- Proven track record in business development and customer acquisition within the logistics industry.
