Key Accountabilities
1. Customs Advisory and Regulatory Support: Provide timely updates, guidance, and technical advice to Customer Service and other stakeholders on customs regulations, clearance procedures, tariff classifications, exemptions, and statutory requirements to ensure compliance and informed decision-making.
2. Customs Documentation and Declaration Processing: Prepare, review, and submit accurate customs declarations and supporting documentation for import, export, transit, and bonded shipments in accordance with applicable customs laws, regulations, and organisational standards.
3. Regulatory Authority Liaison: Maintain effective working relationships with customs and other government regulatory agencies including TRA, TANESW, UCR, OGA, TBS, GCLA, ATOMIC, TFDA, and other relevant authorities to facilitate smooth cargo clearance and timely resolution of regulatory requirements.
4. Client Advisory and Customs Compliance: Advise clients on customs procedures, duty and tax implications, exemptions, and regulatory requirements while promoting compliance with all applicable legislation and customs policies.
5. Bond and Entry Management: Ensure all customs entries are accurately completed, monitored, and finalised, and that customs bonds are appropriately managed and cancelled within prescribed regulatory timelines to avoid compliance risks and financial exposure.
6. Issue Resolution and Stakeholder Management: Investigate and resolve declaration discrepancies, customs queries, and clearance challenges through proactive engagement with clients, regulatory authorities, and internal teams to minimise delays and disruptions.
7. Compliance Monitoring and Regulatory Awareness: Continuously monitor changes in customs legislation, trade regulations, and clearance procedures, ensuring adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements while maintaining high standards of compliance.
8. Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate closely with Operations, Customer Service, Transport, Warehousing, and other internal departments to gather required information, support efficient clearance processes, and ensure seamless cargo movement.
9. Data Verification and Quality Assurance: Review and validate shipment information, customs declarations, and supporting documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance prior to submission to relevant authorities.
10. System Management and Progress Tracking: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records within the Transport Management System (TMS), ensuring timely status updates, detailed remarks, and end-to-end visibility of shipments until customs assessment and clearance are completed.
11. Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve customs declaration processes, enhance service delivery, reduce clearance timelines, and strengthen compliance controls to drive operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
