  • Conduct margin analysis by lane, customer, and product, and recommend pricing adjustments to improve competitiveness and profitability.
  • Ensure pricing governance, version control, and clear documentation of assumptions and methodologies used in rate construction.

Market & Cost Analysis

  • Evaluate intermodal and rail cost variables to identify optimal routing and mode choices.
  • Support development of cost-to-serve models for key customers and trade lanes.

Carrier & Vendor Collaboration

  • Work with procurement and carrier management teams to secure competitive rail and ground rates and capacity.
  • Provide data-driven insights on cost, performance, and lane profitability to support carrier negotiations and sourcing decisions.
  • Maintain accurate rate sheets, contracts, and pricing databases, ensuring swift access to current rates for internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with operations and procurement to understand service performance and incorporate operational realities into pricing.

Commercial Support

  • Provide clear pricing guidance and detailed rate proposals to sales and business development teams.
  • Participate in customer meetings or calls to explain pricing logic, rate structures, and value propositions where required.
  • Assist in designing customer-specific pricing structures (e.g., tariffs, rate matrices, gain-share models) for strategic and key accounts.
  • Support bid management teams with timely and accurate pricing inputs during tender processes.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting

  • Track pricing performance, revenue outcomes, and profitability by lane, service, and customer segment.
  • Prepare regular pricing and margin reports, dashboards, and insights for senior management and commercial teams.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities in pricing performance, and recommend continuous improvements to strategy and execution.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of pricing tools, processes, and governance frameworks.

 Education and Experience

  • A diploma or degree in Logistics, Transport Management, Supply Chain, Finance, Economics, or a related field is required.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in logistics pricing, transport operations, or supply chain analytics (ground or rail preferred).
  • Experience with pricing in the South African ground and/or rail environment, including interaction with carriers and rail operators, is advantageous.
  • Exposure to tender management, commercial support, or financial analysis will be beneficial.

Skills

  • Highly organized, able to manage multiple RFQs, tenders, and pricing requests simultaneously and within tight deadlines.
  • Proactive and solution-oriented, with the ability to challenge assumptions and propose alternative pricing or routing options.
  • Collaborative team player who works effectively with sales, operations, procurement, and finance stakeholders.
