YOUR ROLE

The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the movement of trucks, drivers, and freight to ensure efficient, safe, and on‑time transportation services. This includes route planning, real‑time communications, resolving logistics issues, preparing records, and supporting overall fleet efficiency.

 

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

  • Plan and assign daily routes for drivers to ensure efficient and timely pickups and deliveries.
  • Monitor shipment progress and driver locations using dispatch or GPS tracking systems.
  • Optimize routes to reduce delays and fuel use while minimizing transportation costs.
  • Prepare and finalize dispatch plans for the following day, including assigning drivers, scheduling freight, and optimizing loads.
  • Verify that equipment, driver availability, and required documentation are aligned for next‑day operations.
  • Communicate next‑day schedules to drivers and internal teams.
  • Provide drivers with instructions, route updates, and real‑time support.
  • Maintain clear communication with customers regarding shipment updates and concerns.
  • Respond to unplanned events such as breakdowns or delays and adjust routing accordingly.
  • Troubleshoot logistics challenges to minimize disruption.
  • Ensure drivers follow transportation regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
  • Maintain vehicle activity records including mileage, fuel usage, and repair logs.
  • Verify trip details, mileage, fuel, and accessorial charges for broker invoices.
  • Submit accurate settlements and resolve discrepancies with brokers.
  • Update internal systems and customer portals with shipment data.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare operational reports.

 

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

 

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED; Minimum three years related experience. Minimum two years of industry experience preferred. Knowledge of local geographic market.

 

Credentials: Valid state issued Class C Driver's License. Forklift Certification. DOT Dangerous Goods/Hazardous Materials Certification. Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.  Ability to drive and/or operate heaving machinery or equipment.

 

Skills: Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific software applications. Accurate typing skills and/or data entry skills. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

 

Characteristics: Demonstrated leadership ability. Ability to read, comprehend, and complete basic checklists, forms or other related documents. Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. Responds promptly and professionally to customer needs.

 

Work Environment:

  • Office and warehouse-based work environment.
  • May require shift work including evenings, weekends, or holidays.
  • Frequent communication via phone, emails, and dispatch software.
