Ship performance R&D Engineer (M/F)

CMA CGM Group has decided to structure and strengthen its R&D approach by creating a Center of Excellence dedicated to Innovation and Research. The center will increase the company’s capacity for technological and scientific innovation necessary to meet its strategic objectives (decarbonization, digitalization…), while generating profitability and ensure a high visibility on the Group’s commitment to industry’s energy transition. It will rely on strategic industrial and academic partners experts in the maritime industry (laboratories, companies, startups, shipyards, etc.).

 

 

The Role : 

 

Within the R&D department of CMA CGM Group and in cooperation with other departments, your mission will be to develop and use models in order to analyze and improve ship performance. These tools shall be able to forecast vessels performance and consumption, cargo allocation onboard, allocation & optimization of the fleet according to the coming regulation.

They are a key component our improvement strategy in terms of emissions and consumption.

 

 

Responsibilities : 

 

You will be in charge of:

 

  • Contributing to the design, implementation and support of ship performance data tools and software
  • Interacting with other technology experts to extract, transform, and load data from a wide variety of data sources.
  • Develop advanced performance analysis models mixing analytic (naval architecture), numerical simulation (CFD) and data (monitoring).
  • Creating and support real-time data pipelines mainly built on SQL and AWS technologies
  • Running continual research of the latest big data, Elasticsearch and visualization technologies to provide new capabilities and increase efficiency
  • Working closely with team members to drive real-time model implementations for monitoring and alerting of risk systems

 

 

Profile and required skills:

 

  • Graduated from engineering school (Centrale, ENSTA, ENSAM, etc …) with a specialization in marine engineering and an experience in algorithm development and data science.
  • You have at least 2-5 years of experience, eventually a PhD, with a good understanding of ship operations and maritime sector.
  • You have a broad knowledge of applied mathematics, statistics, machine learning techniques, etc...
  • Mastery: Data visualization tools (Qliksense,…), Python / R and C++ and Java knowledge, Knowledge of SQL and AWS
  • You are proactive, organized and able to work autonomously with minimal supervision and in relation to several teams.
  • You have a strong team spirit and work in a spirit of continuous improvement.
  • You must also have a sense of innovation. You have excellent oral and writing skills, enabling you to communicate with all types of people, including business managers.
  • You are passionate, able to train yourself and implement new technologies with ease.
  • You speak and write English fluently.
