The Ocean Solution Design Manager is part of the Advanced ocean Products Team, which focusses on accelerating the growth of FMS/Consol and Supply Chain visibility/developments programs with the aim to acquire new/additional business from strategic target customers, and by developing a consistent, best in class standardized product offering.
The role mainly focuses on managing the Regional Pipeline, providing support and sometimes lead pursuit teams including various stakeholders in Advanced Ocean Products GHO and Regions , Ocean Product Operations and trade Management, BD and even CLL. Main actions are Preparing sound analysis leading to compelling supply chain solutions using the Standard Modules as much as possible. As part of the pursuit team the Solution Design Manager uses his expertise to Propose the solution to the client to land the business.
Also the Ocean Solution Design Manager will act as SME, using expert knowledge of the market and best-practice sharing between Regions and other stakeholders as well as providing trainings.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?
- Main responsibility is to support Regional Heads of Advanced Ocean Products as well as BD in attaining their growth objectives in volume as well as value.
- The role is about providing custom made analysis and reporting, to drive optimization of existing/new customer freight flows. In depth Analysis of Customer Supply chains on various modalities need to be studied to seek optimization opportunities that are aligned with Advanced ocean Products service offerings.
- The Ocean Solution Design Manager/Expert will work together with GTM and region teams and is authorized to deliver competitive pricing & (optimization) regarding the developed solutions for strategic customers.
- The Ocean Solution Design Manager/Expert will work together with BD and Product in pursuit teams applying strategic selling techniques. Integral part is Proposing the Solution to the customer, closing the sale.
- The Ocean Solution Design Manager/Expert will constantly aim to broaden the Standard modules, improving the Products and share best practices. Providing training to mainly BD is an integral part of the practice sharing.
Solution Design:
- Integrated member of Pursuit Teams
- Develop and propose new and/or innovative solutions to existing or potential customers
- Help deciding on Sales Strategy when a Pursuit Team is chasing an FMS/Consol or Supply Chain Visibility opportunity, using Strategic Selling Techniques (like for instance Miller-Heiman)
- Propose supply chain based optimization opportunities/business cases based on supply chain/freight knowledge and supported by data, i.e. consolidation/CFS, mode change, inventory optimization, demurrage & detention reduction, etc.
- Stay up to speed with market- and technology developments, and anticipate/use these in providing customer solutions. Best Practice Sharing and Providing Training.
- Actively help broadening the scope of the Standard Modules based on system and market developments, etc
- Support customer specific solution designs beyond standard product offering
- Align with Ocean Nexus Managers on developing and deploying Supply Chain Visibility Proposals
Performance Management:
- Provide Business Intelligence/reporting to GPD VP’s/BD on customer performance for strategic customers
Operational Support:
- Stay up to speed with operational challenges in regions
- Selectively engage in operational issues – directed by Global Head of FMS/Consol
Support to Business Development:
- Assist Regional Advanced Ocean Products Head in Driving the Pipeline
- Early engagement with Strategic account owners and support in RFQ response strategy planning
- Active Member of Pursuits Teams authorized to price Solutions.
- Product guidance, based on (self-)build reporting/analysis and market knowledge
- Supports BD on large businesses with solutions and analysis and delivers Proposal to customers closing the business.
Budgeting and Controlling:
- Supports Regional Head of Advanced Ocean Products in driving clear strategy/budget (volume and revenue)
- Support the monitoring performance of main customers that represent the Regional Top Line and Gross Margin.
- Helps in preparing Icaps for designated customers
GTM Alignment:
- Work together with global/regional GTM teams to align on strategy and is authorized to price solutions for defined customers
- Support in joint analysis of (historic) pricing and achieved cost to improve pricing levels and RFQ hit rate.
- University degree / masters or equivalent in a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in logistics/supply chain industry
- Global/regional experience with freight forwarder in engineering/business-analytics/pricing/product team
- Experience with operating in a global, matrix business environment.
- Excellent analytical skills & experience
- Good Air/Ocean product knowledge and understanding of the network and business of FM worldwide.
- Strong written and spoken English essential
- Ability to understand and communicate complex data information
- Ability to work/communicate with different levels within the company
- Ability to work independently, since team is spread globally
- Strong external and internal networking skills.
Desirable
- Engineering qualification
- 5+ years’ experience in the freight forwarding industry
- In-depth market knowledge
- Experience/knowledge of supply chain engineering
