WHAT WILL YOU BE RESPONSIBLE FOR?

 

The Director of Ground and Rail Logistics – Eastern Europe is responsible for defining and executing the regional ground and rail logistics strategy across multiple countries within Eastern Europe.

This role ensures the efficient, compliant, and cost-effective movement of goods through the optimization of transportation networks, carrier relationships, and cross-border operations.

The position provides leadership across country logistics activities, drives operational excellence and continuous improvement, and ensures alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and customer service expectations. The role also serves as a key point of coordination among internal stakeholders, external logistics partners, and country teams to deliver consistent performance, mitigate risk, and support sustainable growth across the cluster.

 

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

 

  • Define and implement the cluster Ground & Rail (G&R) product strategy across multiples countries, ensuring alignment with market trends, customer needs, and company objectives.
  • Align logistics activities, standards, and processes across countries to ensure consistency, operational synergies, and effective cross-border execution.
  • Manage relationships and performance of transport providers, rail operators, and logistics partners to ensure service quality, compliance, and value delivery.
  • Support business development and key account teams to win new business and expand existing contracts by developing competitive forwarding and networking solutions and value propositions.
  • Monitor and optimize product performance, including revenue, margins, service levels, and operational efficiency across the regional network.
  • Drive operational consistency and best practices across countries to improve transport performance and operational quality.
  • Provide functional leadership and coordination across the multiples countries to ensure alignment on product strategy, priorities, and standards.
  • Contribute to the management of the product P&L, supporting budgeting, pricing strategy, cost control, and investment prioritization.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance digital capabilities, visibility, and sustainable logistics solutions, including CO₂ reduction and network optimization.

 

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

 

  • University degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Fluent in English.
  • An asset: postgraduate qualification such as an MBA or Master’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field. Advanced professional certification in supply chain, transport, or operations management.
  • Extensive senior leadership experience in logistics, transportation, or supply chain management within complex, multi-country and matrix organizations. Demonstrated success in leading regional ground and/or rail logistics operations, with accountability for strategic direction, operational performance, cost optimization, and risk management. Proven experience managing cross-border logistics networks, senior stakeholder relationships, and large-scale third-party logistics and carrier partnerships.
  • An asset: experience in leading logistics activities across Eastern Europe or similarly complex emerging markets. Experience in large-scale network redesign, business integration, M&A transition, or supply chain transformation programs. Exposure to highly regulated industries and international trade environments. Strong track record of delivering transformation, continuous improvement, and sustainable business results across multiple markets.
  • Deep expertise in ground and rail logistics strategy, transport network optimization, carrier and contract management, and cross-border operational governance. Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to manage significant logistics spend, drive productivity, and contribute to regional profitability objectives. Strong understanding of transport compliance, customs, trade, safety, and risk frameworks relevant to international logistics operations.
  • An asset: strong knowledge of Eastern European transport infrastructure, market dynamics, and geopolitical or regulatory factors affecting regional logistics performance. Familiarity with digital supply chain capabilities, transport management systems, automation, and advanced analytics. Knowledge of sustainability initiatives within transportation and logistics networks.
  • Executive-level leadership presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders across business, functional, and country leadership teams. Strong strategic communication, negotiation, and decision-making capabilities, with the ability to balance long-term priorities and immediate operational demands. Demonstrated ability to lead through complexity, ambiguity, and change in a multicultural, cross-functional environment. Strong people leadership skills, with experience building high-performing teams, strengthening organizational capability, and fostering accountability across geographically dispersed structures.            
  • An asset: Multilingual capability relevant to Eastern European markets. Experience representing logistics at executive governance forums, industry bodies, or strategic customer and partner discussions.
